PENRHYN ISLAND

Penrhyn Island, aka Tongareva, Mãngarongaro, Hararanga or Te Pitaka, is an islands of the northern Cook Islands.
It was annexed by Britain in 1888 and then by New Zealand until independence in 1965.
From 1902 New Zealand stamps were used, overprinted Penrhyn Island, then Cook Island stamps until 1974,
after which Penrhyn Islands issued its own stamps.
To date only a single stamp issue has been produced featuring herpetological subjects.
