PAPUA NEW GUINEA SNAKEBITE PROJECT
HERPING BY BACK-HOE
We stopped working around 15:00 and returned to the guest house to rest, I in particular needed to rest my eye. I was not wearing the eye patch in the field because it attracted too much attention so instead I had worn sunglasses to shield the eye from the sun.
In the evening we went out again to drive some of the plantation roads. We caught a very large Bevel-nosed ground boa (Candoia paulsoni mcdowelli) in some bamboo and then a young Amethystine python (Morelia amethistina) crawling across the road. After searching intensively we returned to base without any venomous snakes.
