TIMOR-LESTE REPTILE & AMPHIBIAN SURVEY
PHASE V: ARRIVING IN DILI

The Air Timor flight to Dili, Timor-Leste, took approximately 3 hrs 20 minutes and the route took us over western and southwestern Kalimantan, south of Sulawesi and over the Lesser Sunda islands, in excellent if a little bouncy conditions, with perfect visibility.

We arrived in Dili, cleared Immigration, collected our baggage, cleared Customs and waited for our transportation to the Timor Lodge Hotel. The lead Jet, Benny, was at the airport to meet us. He would not be joining us in the field for Phase V as he had won a scholarship to study in Sydney and had much to prepare. Congratulations and good luck from us all to Benny.

We drove to the Timor Lodge Hotel, a short 5 minute journey from the airport. The TLH is our regular expedition base where we prepare, pack, rest and store our equipment between phases.

Out of the airport, past the welcome to Timor-Leste sign, turn left, 100 m and turn right to the Timor Lodge Hotel

The TLH restaurant and pool - the largest in Timor-Leste, but beware, nobody who swims in it ever returns for another phase of the project!
