TIMOR-LESTE (Oecusse Distr.)

TIMOR-LESTE REPTILE & AMPHIBIAN SURVEY
THE BORDER PATROL

Today we set out to recce the protected areas and the habitat in Passabe sub-district at the southern end of the Oecusse District, close to the Indonesian West Timor border. We drove to the Abanat River where we collected in 2010, and then on towards the border, completing a wide loop across several rivers and returning to Pante Macassar in the late afternoon.

Herps were not much in evidence. We found an Asian black-spined toad (Duttaphrynus melanostictus) right on the road in the mid-day heat, and two Timor flying lizards (Draco timoriensis) on trees near where we stopped for lunch.
