TIMOR-LESTE (Oecusse to Dili Distr.)

TIMOR-LESTE REPTILE & AMPHIBIAN SURVEY
WARNING: WE BRAKE FOR ROAD-KILLS!

This evening was our penultimate evening at TLH on Phase IX and a chance to meet up with old friends. Benny, the original leader of "The Jets" (our erstwhile Timorese students) was back from Australia after graduating with a Master's degree from the University of New South Wales, had gotten married in December and had just become the proud father of a baby girl. Benny currently works in the Ministry of Education in Timor-Leste, designing the primary school curriculum for grades 1–6. Luis Lemos, who had also gotten married, was also in town before heading off for Ermera District. Luis works for a USAID-funded project that studies the reasons why some children drop out of primary school and provides intervention for them and their parents. Only Zito, who works in Maliana in Bobonaro District, was missing from the original four Jets. For Hinrich, Caitlin and myself it was very special to meet up with our old friends.

Tomorrow we sort kit, finish off specimen prepping, do any final photography, upload this blog, do some shopping and wind down from Phase IX. The next day we will leave for Singapore.
