From a set of four stamps, one features the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). The connection can be found in the caption: "GREEN TURTLE (Chelonia mydas) caught by Cook's crew on Ascension Island for nourishment" - highly environmentally friendly, the navies of the world were responsible for many extirpations and extinctions ranging from sea turtles and giant tortoises to flightless birds like the dodo and the solitaire and the Stellar's sea cow.

From a set of four stamps, one is illustrated by an iguanid lizard. Liolaemus weigmannii is found in southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraquay and northern Argentina. It belongs to a large genus of iguanid lizards sometimes termed South American swifts, the S.American equivalent of the North American genus Sceloporus. British herpetologist Arthur Loveridge visited Ascension Island in 1957 where he collected several specimens of this lizard from sealevel to 305m but he does not suggest how they reached the island from S.America [Loveridge 1959 Notes on the present herpetofauna of Acension Island. Copeia 1959(1):59-70].
