PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Oro Province)

PAPUA NEW GUINEA SNAKEBITE PROJECT
WHITESNAKE HUNT, WHOA YEAH!

BUT more importantly we got five venomous snakes: three Müller's crowned snakes (Aspidomorphus muelleri) and two New Guinea small-eyed snakes (Micropechis ikaheka), the largest a huge snake in pre-slough. At last we have caught a couple of live specimens, all the hard work and long hours have paid off. The captures were also both caught on the GoPro camera so screen grabs are included below and videos will be posted on YouTube when time permits.

* It is our policy not to 'mess' with the highly venomous snakes once they are safely bagged. Therefore photographs would have to wait until we returned to the relative safety of the Snek Haus in the hospital grounds. Therefore this image is of a Popondetta small-eyed snake captured by myself in 2006 rather than one of the two snakes captured today.
