PHASE VI: OF MONITORS AND GECKOS

In the afternoon the part of the team that had remained in camp with myself, went out on the road to the south, planning to recce the new road to its conclusion near the northern tip of the island, but road construction forced us to turn back. We began exploring the road-side valleys and under a rock on a cliff-face Sven bagged a bent-toed gecko (Cyrtodactylus sp.) which was different from the Mt Manucoco specimen. On the way back to base we investigated several other likely gecko locations and in the evening Hinrich took a team out to these spots and came back with both bent-toed geckos and blindsnakes (Ramphotyphlops sp.).
