THE GERMAN TEAM ARRIVES

While Mark was in Hawaii at the IUCN workshop, Hinrich was back in Kuala Lumpur, having dropped the American students from Phase IX back in the United States.

After his dual transpacific journey, he was able to rest a bit and work on our forthcoming second update to the herpetofauna of Timor-Leste. Early on the 22nd, it was time to welcome the German team, who had made their way on Emirates Airlines from Frankfurt via Dubai.

As is our habit, they checked into the Radius International Hotel and began the day with a local breakfast of roti prata (a delicious cross between a pancake and a flaky crust pastry) and teh tarik (the local chai-like hot tea beverage).

Next on the agenda, after a short rest and some pool time, was a visit to the Petronas Towers, the iconic symbol of Kuala Lumpur. We had visited the towers on a previous phase, and the architecture and the technology that went into them is impressive.
