A BALI RAINFOREST WALK

With only two specimens of Tytthoscincus the total catch on the walk, the group was a little disappointed. That’s just sometimes the way it is when doing surveys, perhaps particularly when looking at an altitude over 1300 m!

They did have a nice boat ride across the lake, back to where they could board the vehicle. As a consolation prize, they encountered a nicely posing Sun skink (Eutropis multifasciata) just after leaving the boats, and this individual definitely presented a different morphotypeto those in Templer Park, Kuala Lumpur, and those in Timor-Leste. It appears that perhaps the subspecific name of the Bali population of this skink as E. m. balinensis, as designated by Robert Mertens in 1927, should still be applied. The group finished up with a buffet lunch, a visit to a nice set of rice terraces, and the long and rather arduous drive back to Kuta.
