Probably one of the best set of stamps with herpetological subjects ever issued, this superb set entitled Dangerous Australians featured a shark, a crocodile, two snakes, an octopus, a box jellyfish, and a spider six lethal species occuring in and around the country. Issued as separate stamps, se-tenant sets of three and five, two minisheet, and in the form of informative stamp books and brochures, a lot of work must have gone into this tour de force. Interestingly the red-back spider stamp was never issued and appears only an a special edition imperforate stamp in a minsheet. The reason given was that accurately represented at full size it might "alarm postal workers".

A stunning set of stamps illustrating Australian megafauna that went extinct between 50,000 to 20,000 years ago, with the exception of the Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger, which is beleived to have gone extinct in the 1930s. Many of these large animals will have interacted with the first humans to reach Australia. The set is included here because it includes Megalania (Varanus prisca), the giant monitor lizard and the largest lizard ever known to have existed.

Following on from Dangerous Australians (2006) another excellent set of six stamps featuring venomous animals in Australia featured a tigersnake, European wasp, bull ant, stingray, lionfish and stonefish. Issued as separate stamps, se-tenant sets, a minisheet, and in the form of informative stamp books and an educational board game. Both gummed and self-adhesive stamps were issued.
