Ataúro to Dili, Dili District

It was a calm morning when we packed and loaded the truck to take us to the jetty to board the boat and depart from Ataúro Island and the calm seas continued until we emerged from the shelter of the island into the main channel between Ataúro and Timor.

Our boat moored and waiting near Tua Ko'in,

The sea was calm when we left Ataúro for Timor.

Once in the open the wind kicked up and we experienced a rough, rocking ride to Dili, but still managed to make the crossing in three hours.

Once back in Dili we sorted our kit, put clothes in for laundry and met up with the Jets again in the evening to discuss the results of their own herp survey projects at three different locations in Timor-Leste. This project is not just about conducting an herpetological survey of the new country of Timor-Leste, it is also about training students, both American and Timorese, in field techniques.
